Below are answers to questions asked during the demo. If you have additional questions, please contact Kathy Gibbs (kathleen.gibbs@solarwinds.com). Thank you!
Q. To upgrade from Ingite v8.3 to DPA v9.0 - is it an in place upgrade?
A. Yes it is an in place upgrade. You will need new license keys though so make sure you have checked out the customer portal before you start the upgrade.
Q. For ASM, does the "Storage I/O" -> Current show info by diskgroup?
A. It can, you may want to go to options and set up a drive mapping if you want to see the disk groups separately.
Q. Does DPA show anything related to GC wait events? RAC interconnect info?
A. Yes we do. If you set up the instances as part of a RAC, we will also show an additional tab under Resources that show Interconnect information.
Q. How long will Ignite (e.g., Confio v8.3.307) be a seperately installed product from SolarWinds?
A. Ignite is now DPA so DPA 9.0 is the first release after Confio became part of the SolarWinds family.
Q. When does support for the current v8.0 end?
A. We usually support the last two releases.
Q. On both the resource and trend graphs, it would really be nice to be able to alter the left scale when sngle timeframes cause the graph to mimize the effect of most of the metrics due to one really large event. Also making a sliding scale on the date/time would help. It assumes everything is relative to the current time backward.
A. I will add this to thwack as an enhancement. https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/4714
Q. Does it support Oracle VM or just VMWare?
A. Just VMWare.
Q. Does DPA have full functionality for Standard Edition One?
A. Yes, we don’t rely on AWR tables.
Q. Does storage I/O analysis work with Oracle ASM using SAN storage?
A. Yes it can.
Q. Can you alert on blocking sessions?
A. Yes we can. There are out of the box and custom alerts.
Q. Why are there no numbers on the left side of read/write performance?
A. Storage IO shows when there is high latency and throughput combined with time. This calculation can vary depending so we didn’t want to add confusion. You can see latency numbers for a file when you drill into an hour and look at the other graphs.
Q. Do we need to still license performance stat pack for Oracle with DPA?
A. No, we don't go against any AWR tables.
