problem with command-line switch for column delimiter

Greetings folks. Thanks for the great Kiwi Log Viewer (or for taking it along with others in the Kiwi acquisition).

I'm finding that the command line switch (added last July, according to www.kiwisyslog.com/index.php doesn't seem to be working.

I have tried it first with some space-delimited logs I have, using -d 32 (decimal for space), but the lines read in are treated as just one big column per line (as if I didn't bother with the -d switch at all).

The help shows using code 58 for a colon, and I went ahead and created a sample that has a few fields separated by colons. Had the same problem as above.

I was really excited to see that the new -d option had been added since I first looked at the tool last May. I downloaded and installed, now showing as Version 2.1.0 Build 20090416 in help>about.

If you'd like me to send along the test file and command line I'm using, I'm happy to do that.

Thanks for the enquiry.

Try turning on the the vertical lines option from the Options > Setup menu so that you can see the columns that are created.

I've just tried it using both spaces (-d 32) and pipes (-d 124) and this works as expected

Thanks. That did indeed solve the problem. But I would wonder then, why do we need to turn that on, if when we open a normal CSV file (and don't have that option on) it goes ahead and shows the vertical bars. It was the fact that they showed up for that file but not for this, even with the -d argument, that confused me.

Maybe the use of the -d argument should trigger automatically the vertical bars feature? If one would argue that the option shouldn't be auto-enabled that way, I'd ask again, why then is it effectively auto-enabled for CSV files?

Not complaining. I do appreciate the tool. Just trying to understand things, and perhaps prevent others having similar confusion. Thanks.
