Giving a complete availability figure

Hello Users,

I am struggling a bit with creating custom reports, one report i am required to create is to give a monthly availability figure on different elements of the network, so for example, on the network we have WAN LAN and Voice Services. For each of these services i want one availability figure, as well as an availability figure for each individual item of equipment I think i have figured out how to get the individual availability figure but not the over all figure.

So as an example i have 5 switches and one router which are monitored, i want a report to show me the availability of each device and an over all LAN availability figure calculated on these 6 devices, this would then show me complete LAN availability.

I hope i have explained this clearly enough, please help me.

You can create a group for those devices and report on the group availability for your overall status. Then you can report individually for each device. This will require that you're on NPM 10.1.

WOW Quick reply thanks, now the stupid questions will start to flow, when you create a group are talking about creating a group somewhere in the report writer software or somewhere else, the devices in monitoring are already grouped by location which cant be changed, maybe secondary grouping can be done i dont know?

in the new 10.1 NPM version there is a new feature, the grouping feature.

you can add nodes, etc. to groups and treat the groups like a separate entity or for alert suppressions.

After you create the group within the NPM web console you can then leverage the 'group' while writing your reports. Questtionario provided some more insight into the groups above.

Right that sounds like a good idea but it turns out i am on 9.5 sp4 blinking typical !!!

Any other suggestions?
