Multiple SMTP servers for NPM alerting

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to set a primary and a backup SMTP server in NPM alerting? It looks like there is only the option to set one SMTP server.

And to the Solarwinds devs - if not then why not? If the SMTP server goes down how do I get my email alerts?

Hey dirty,

Couldn't you use a DNS entry like smtp.company.local and if your Primary fails have the DNS entry changed??

am i right in thinking KIWI lets you specify 2 email servers, primary and secondary?

it needs to be automatic, so 2 boxes in the server tab would do...

it is amazing how many times in the past 12 months my primary email server has gone down but the secondary solution was up... but i knew nothing about it as NPM culd not tell me LOL

You could split your paging: Email pages go to ServerX & SMS goes to ServerY

We loaded SMTP on our ORION Server, so if the mail server dropped, we would still get alerts.

Thanks for the tips guys. Loading an SMTP server on the NPM server may be the ticket until Solarwinds does something about it. I'll see how I go.

Would also like to be able to configure a secondary mailserver.

We have on some places sms-alerts as well but not everywhere.

We would like to get a secondary email server for NPM alerts too so we only get one set of email alerts. Thanks.

The workaround I'm using is to create another set of alerts using the backup SMTP server. The alert is suppressed while the main SMTP server is not down. I find it preferable if SolarWinds can just add a backup SMTP server like in LANsurveyor.
