HOW ARE PEOPLE TRACKING THE GROWTH OF DATABASES

I am using the SolarWindsOrion db and i see a growth column APM_SqlBbDatabaseFile can someone tell me how this data is being populated and if anyone has tackled this any useful info is appreciated. basically i am trying to set up a custom report to show database growth over 30 percent.
