OAuth and Twitter

Hi Folks,

I've found the post where we can setup cURL to send alerts to Twitter. I've downloaded cURL and tested but I get the error 'Basic authentication is not supported". I did a quick research and found that Twitter no longer supports basic authentication and OAuth is a requirement.

Does anyone have documentation specific on setting this up in Solarwinds?

Something on our list, but nothing we can commit to at this point in time. The previous integration was community created, anyone up for the challenge of updating the old community contributed Twitter integration?

It's a bit late, I know, but I just came across a third-party tool that can be used with Twitter and cURL - http://www.supertweet.net/

You do have to allow it access to your Twitter account as an application (read their documentation for full details), but the advantage is you only have to change the URL to api.supertweet.net (from twitter.com), update the password to the SuperTweet secret (don't use your Twitter password!) and you can continue to use cURL otherwise unchanged!

Example:
curl.exe -u UserName:Password -d status="ALERT! ${Caption} is ${Status}." http://twitter.com/1/statuses/update.xml
changes to
curl.exe -u UserName:SuperTweetSecret -d status="ALERT! ${Caption} is ${Status}." http://api.supertweet.net/1/statuses/update.xml

Note: you may need to update your code to use /1/statuses/update.xml if still using the original /statuses/update.xml
