Hi,
is there any way to create an APM without store statistics data ?
I only want an APM to issue alarms.
You will have to keep some data but you can minimize it by going to Admin -> APM Settings -> Data and database settings. Try setting all of them to 1 day. Keep in mind this will impact APM reporting for any time period greater than "Today". You will also need to modify or delete any APM resources with a time period greater than "Today".
I have had a couple of threads on this.. i was dreaming that APM 3.5 would have the ability to choose BASIC or ADVANCED APM component monitors..
All I want to be able to do, is alarm on whether a specific service or process of SNMP is DOWN for a specific length of time... don’t care about CPU or memory... don't want to record information on 30 individual instances of the same process, all i want to know is whether a specific server, has at least ONE of a specific process running...
though it looks like this has not made it into 3.5, and no mention of it again since my threads...
Problem is, it makes APM less scalable not having this feature… I have 1000 or so APM monitors, but due to the way APM works, it pulls states of multiple thousand processes and hacks up the database every 3 months and I have to clear it down manually, even though I have retention of detailed data set to a day
gutted....
I agree that basic/advanced monitors would be good on the database...
there is a ton of stuff I am monitoring where I dont give a rats tail about the history of it...
The Universal Device Poller has the option to not retain historic data.... thats kind of what I mean.
