I'm looking for a way to run a report that shows whether an installed operating system is 32 or 64 bit.

There looks to be a canned report that will return the requested information in WSUS Reports > Windows Server Update Services Analytics > Computers with version and OS Architecture and approved updates status. You can modify this report and take out the unneeded rows to stream line it a bit more for your needs. Here's a screenshot of how I set this up.
