Alerts - Basic and Advanced Alerts

Hello,

I am running NPM v9.5 and i have a problem getting alerts via Configure Basic Alerts, and no problem via Configured Advanced Alerts, such as "Interface up/down". I confirmed there is no check mark next to "Temporary Disable..."

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you currently able to use an advanced alert to alert as you require? Generally, we recommend using advanced alerts over basic alerts as advanced alerts are more flexible. You should be able to replicate the conditions and actions of any basic alert as an advanced alert. If you are not finding this to be the case, please provide some more specific info about your requirements, and we'll get you set up.

As i am reading this forum, looks like Basic Alerts and Advanced Alerts are in separate engines, and that is fine. I just can't get a simple up/down alert on Basic Alert while Advanced Alerts see it. Not sure what i am not doing right.

Orion only has 1 alert engine.. Advanced Alert Manager: You can setup basic alerts or setup more advanced alerts:

What type of device down alert are you trying to setup, Server or Network? If server, I would look for a node status down.. If Network, you need to do a node status down but you also need to setup a Interface down alert. In addition, when you setup interface down alerts, you need to create a custom property(CriticalInterfaces) on your interfaces that you want to alert on .. Then setup your Interface down alert only on interfaces with custom property CriticalInterface, that will keep you from getting hundreds of alerts when users shutdown their latptop/desktops..
