The WMI provider is showing up as a needed update but is already installed. When I tell Windows Updates to install it it completes and then comes right back as a needed update. Any one else having this issue? It is happening on a Windows 7 64 bit workstation.
Greetings
In the Windows Update History confirm that the WMI Providers are displayed as Installed (not Failed).
Also confirm this status on the Update Details tab of the EW console for this target computer. (e.g. WMI Providers show as Installed, and not Failed or NotInstalled).
On the target system, please confirm that the file %ProgramFiles%\EminentWare\WMI Providers\EminentWareExtensionProvider.exe is physically present, and that it is, in fact, v1.70.184.0.
If the file does exist, please check the registry for the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{BC073674-11E9-4747-907E-FCFC8C0715B0}
Generally speaking, when a product continues to install, after apparently installing successfully, it's either because the installation failed, or was not completely done, resulting in the Installation Ruleset failing to evaluate to TRUE. Also, in this package, since we do explicitly check for the absence of the current EminentWareExtensionProvider.exe, its mere presence in the filesystem should preclude further installation attempts. If the above checks are all as expected, please email your availability to www.solarwinds.com/customerportal so that we can set up a GoToMeeting session and inspect the situation in more detail.
I verified everything and everything was correct except for the registry key is missing.
That would account for the repeated installation. The absence of the registry key is an incomplete installation.
Is this the only system that this behavior occurred on? Have you successfully installed to another Windows 7 x64 system?
Please use Programs & Features to remove the EminentWare WMI Providers from that system, reboot, and then attempt the deployment again. Recheck the same items (files, keys, etc.) If the key is again not created, we will want to take a look at the situation, as the installation should be creating the registry key.
Uninstalling and re-installing corrected the issue with the registry key but it continues to show up as needing installed and all the items you requested are showing up correct. Sorry for the delayed reply.
