Cant see syslog messages.

I am trying to test the Kiwii syslog service before deploying.  We currently have the syslog service that is bundled with Orion gathering syslogs.

My question is why can't I see the syslog messages in the Kiwi syslog server after install?  If I start the engineers tools version of the syslog server I can see them but not with the Kiwi server?  I believe this is the free version of this utility or should I request the license before using?

Have you installed Kiwi Syslog Server on the same machine?  If so, your problem is probably because the default syslog port (UDP 514) is in already in use.

To check, run:

netstat -aon

And check which process (PID) is bound to UDP 0.0.0.0:514
The process name can be verified by finding the corresponding PID in Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC).

You could also check the Kiwi Syslog Server error log (CTRL+R).  If Kiwi Syslog Server has a problem binding to UDP 514 then you will see it in the Error log.
