Need Help Creating a Custom View

Is there a way to create a view that includes information from different nodes? For example, in the diagram below I want a little info from node A and node B to be placed into one Custom view titled "Connection 1." The information I would place in this view would be:

1) status of both nodes

2) status of the physical interfaces these nodes use to connect to each other

3) the routing protocol

The reason for this is because if any of these are down, the connection between the 2 are down. I have multiple connections like the example below and will eventually place them into a NOC view. If this cannot be done, does anyone have an alternative?

I spoke with customer service about this and they stated that this cannot be done. They did place a feature request for me. I basically would like to grab widgets from different Node Detail pages and place them into a Custom page.

That is not what I had in mind but if it answers my questions it'll do. Do you mind walking me step by step on how you accomplished this? Can this be placed in a NOC view to cycle between other connections I want to setup in a similar manner?

It's most of your question. I didn't make it, just gave you the link from SolarWinds demo site since I knew it was possible and I was getting you a quick answer without disengaging too much from what I am doing. I think this gets you off to a pretty good start. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Make a view and play around. Do crazy stuff. Just because the view exists doesn't mean anyone is looking at it. That's all under your control with account limitations.

In order to view information about more than one specific element you need to start with a summary page. Then if you apply a View Limitation to the page to only show the list of elements you want displayed.

You can use Atlas to create a 'map' and place whatever entities or groups you need to. You can show connections and Status on the map as well. Then display that map on a View/NOC View

I like your idea but how do I accomplish this if Node A is connecting to a cloud (in this case, and Connection 1 is BGP? Right now I can only add nodes to the map but how do I incorporate BGP?

Any entity that you are monitoring can be added to a map. If your outgoing connection/interface has multiple external IP's as 'neighbors' you might need to see if you can setup a sub interface for the connections. These sub/virtual interfaces when monitored will be map able. If you are able to at least monitor the external end point with ICMP, then you can add that as a Node to also pull into your map. When you make the connection, right click on the line select (properties, i think - sorry still on my first cup this morning) and then you can change the connection details and dictate which interface your 'connection line' pulls its status from. LMK if you need additional details.

This can be done in SQL/SWQL, although I don't know the routing protocol bit off the top of my head I do know it could be done with a little poking around in the db.

join orion.npm.interfaces n2i on n2i.nodeid=n2.nodeid and n2i.caption like 'your other interface here'

If you get fancy you could do _linkfor_ and _iconfor_ sntax to get links and icons and such

The point that I always make with Solarwinds is that when customer service tells you "it can't be done" they mean "we don't have a button to do that for you in the GUI"

I have almost never run into a legitimate "cannot be done" when it comes to bending Orion to your will.
