Upgrading and moving from a two Orion system to a single Orion system, will I lose historical data?

We are upgrading from a two Orion configuration to a single Orion configuration.

We are being told that we lose all historical data,

I am not sure if this is because we are consolidating from 2 to 1 or if it happens with any upgrade.

It is hard to believe and even harder to swallow that years of data is now gone, and I can only do reports from the date of going live on the new single Orion platform.

Am I being sold a bill of goods?

Everything I've read says you can't consolidate the databases from multiple servers. Pick your least favorite one and say goodbye to that data.
