Have you tried the 'Cisco.Wireless.Lan' device type in CatTools? If so, then at what point did this device type fail with your 5508?

Yes I did try and it eventually fails with this error: Did not receive expected response to command: show running-config. Looking into the debug, I see that it does start to get some return from show run-config, but seems to quit at this point:

--More or (q)uit current module or <ctrl-z> to abort.

When you telnet or SSH to the device and issuing a show run-config, you have to hit enter button to have it display the entire running-config. Seems this is where the script is hanging.
