Resetting/Changing admin account in web browser

I don't know if this is the right forum for this subject but we really need your feedback for this.

Our client was using one admin account and this was the only admin account that they've created and they're using. But the problem now was, someone changed the password of the admin account without us knowing. They have other account but it doesn't have admin rights like the admin account has. What can we do to reset or change the password of the only admin account in their web browser?

I was also got into the same problem a while ago, so it will interesting to see the solution for me also.

1. You can reset the admin password to blank by going to the Accounts table in the database and deleting the encrypted Password for that account.

2. We leave that out to reduce the download size. You can download it separately directly from Microsoft. We do ship a simple database tool that you can find on the Start menu under SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager. It's adequate for doing things like that admin password reset.

Here's the procedure:

In order to reset the admin account's password

Go to Start->All Programs->SolarWinds Orion->Advanced Features.

Find the gold icon for the Database Manager and launch it.

From there, you should be able to pick up at step 2 with looking for the Accounts table.

If you can't find an icon for the database,

you can look for the executable at C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\DatabaseManager.exe.

1. Launch the Database Manager.

Go to Start->All Programs->SolarWinds Orion->Advanced Features.

Find the gold icon for the Database Manager and launch it.

If you can't find an icon for the database,

you can look for the executable at C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\DatabaseManager.exe.

2. In the window on your left, expand the tree until you see the table called Accounts.

3. Right click the Accounts table and select Query Table.

4. In the top left corner of the window that opens, find and click the Refresh button.

5. You will now see a list of all of the accounts in your database.

In the AccountID column, find the Admin account.

The next cell to the right is the encrypted password for this account.

In order to edit this value, you must click the button for “Read-write (Results can be edited)” in the top center of this window.

6. Now double click the cell that contains the encrypted password and delete the password.

7. Click the Refresh button twice to confirm that the password was removed.

8. Now launch the Orion web page. Enter “Admin” as the user name and leave the password blank.

9. Once you get in, you should change your password at the first opportunity.

In Older Versions of Orion use the following:

To reset your Administrator password, please use the following query:

UPDATE Accounts
SET Password = '63-8793147947-792-4'
WHERE AccountID = 'Admin'

Open the Database Manager tool, and connect to your SQL server.
Expand the Orion database (called NetPerfMon by default)
Double click any table, then click "Query".
Remove the default query, and type in the query above instead.
Click Refresh to run the query.

Once this is complete, please log in to your web console, leaving the Admin password field blank/empty.
