Using NCM as a backup/restore solution for DR

Case: Backup a device using NCM and push that configuration (minus the management details) to another device.

I can easly backup the configuration using NCM. The problem lies on calling the existing configuration and pushing to another device. Has anybody tried such an animal? I have found a way to do this with a linux script, but I would like to use NCM.

NCM can do that with the "Execute Command Script" option.

Copy the part of the config you want.

Highlight a new device in the left column.

Right click on it and choose Execute Command Script.

In the new window that opens, the device shows up in the top.

Paste in the script in the bottom window.

Click Execute. You can also save that script for later, using the buttons on the bottom.

This is close, but I am looking for an automated way of getting the script. I can gather the config that I need need a scheduled task and write that to a file. If the Execute Command Script can import a file I would have a perfect solution. I cannot find a way to call a file or load anything into the execute command script shell.

Hi dclark,

have you tried referencing custom properties from your script, using this:

- Add customer property to NCM and name it let’s say ‘StoreIP’
- Fill-in this property for each node
- Reference it from the script as macro: ${StoreIP}
