Problem...would like to add single interface

When adding an interface to a router one must list resources for it. Problem is when you have a router with thousands of subinterfaces it takes a very long time, I'm talking hours to list resources. Then you need to manually search through all interfaces for the one you want to add to NPM which are not displayed in order. This entire process takes hours just to add one new interface.

Does anyone have a shortcut for doing this? Is there are way to tell NPM the interface you want to add for a device rather than having to list resources?

Unfortunately not. When you add a node in Orion and do a list resources you are typically reading the SNMP information and detecting all the interfaces that the device has. Orion uses SNMP to read the Mib table for the device and Retrieve the interfaces .If you do not select them then you basically telling Orion To ignore them in collection statistics For Your Orion Install

If you do select the device then Orion polls them automatically. However what your asking is a very good feature request. If i am correct what you want is that when Orion reads that the interface is available you would like a search tab to allow you to search by interface description from the gathered interfaces and then just select the ones you want to monitor ?

I see your point with SNMP. If I understand, you can't tell NPM what interface to add before it's had a chance to actually find it via SNMP. Once listed you can now select it. I'm curious if you could alter a MIB to do this for you. I'm still gaining a better understanding of SNMP and MIB's.

Your second comment about adding tab so that one can search the listed interfaces would be a great feature add. This way, you wouldn't have to scroll the whole list just to try to find the one new interface you want to add. And these are not really in any kind of order so you have to scroll the entire list or you may miss it. I've spent hours doing this. And the reason for that is I only use NPM for stats collection. This is not the system I use to monitor up/down status real-time. It is something I allow users of the network to view so that he/she can see how their particular circuit is doing or their part of the network. So, when a new interface is turned up, I'll get a request to add it to NPM. So being able to search for this one interface and add it would be ideal. Being able to search on interface description or the actual interface label such as ATM2/0.32890.
