Account level settings

One of my senior engineers upgraded NCM the other day, and I discovered today that the integration module had been installed. According to the engineer, "it just sort of happened." Is this something we don't have a choice for any more? My big question is, what table are account settings in, as relates to views (basically, everything under "Network Config Manager Settings" in the account settings)? Less importantly, but still of concern, why don't I have an option of "None" for an NCM role, and how can I turn off one tab without changing all the other tab settings for all users?

Hello Justinh,

When you install or upgrade NCM 7 on the same box as NPM, the WEB interface always appears to be integrated, for all users (i.e. shows up as an additional TAB in the Orion env't.)

The difference is that before (6.x) we had a standalone WEB interface (not integrated) and an Integration moduile. They were similar but different. Now the situation is simple because we have only one web interface (less confusing), but you are right, it cannot not look like an additional tab again, if both products are on the same platform).

About the table question, account settings are now in the same table as for Core and NPM, because NCM 7 manages users based on the Account Management capabilities of Core. In other words, there is no such thing as an NCM user anymore, rather NCM users are now Orion Core users, with NCM attributes and properties.

Last thing: NCM role=none, interesting idea to make sure some users won't have access to NCM (hide the Configs tab), we have opened an enhancement request (94123). What this would allow you to do is configure NCM visibility as follows:

- it should be possible to remove access to NCM entirely for some Orion/NPM users. In this case, the Configs tab does not appear and there is no way for this user to access the WEB interface of NCM installed on the same server

- it should be possible to allow access to NCM, and in this case an integrated TAB in the orion env't is fine

I looked in the Accounts table in my NPM database and didn't see anything specific to NCM (similar to the Netflow settings in the same table), but I'll look again.

Role=None should be less than ReadOnly, not just security through obscurity. None should mean that there's no possibility that that user should be able to even see the contents of the tab on accident. Simply removing a tab while leaving a user set to some ReadOnly or otherwise privileged role makes me nervous no matter how much I trust the coders.

Can you address my final question? How can I remove access to a tab for all users without effecting the other tab settings?

Can you try this and let me know of your thoughts

o Step 1: Go to Setting->Manage Accounts

o Step 2: Select the desired account and press Edit

o Step 3: Set the “ConfigsTab Menu Bar” to “none”

o Step 4: Submit and verify that the Configs Tab has disappeared for this user account

Hi Francois,

Yes, this removes the tab, however, when I'm editing multiple accounts through the web interface, it appears that I can't just remove one tab. Am I misunderstanding your intentions?
