Device Name in Alerts

Is there a way to include the device name when alerting (i.e. something like %devicename%)? The Token List on the Alert Configuration page doesn't indicate that any such variable exists.

My issue stems from the fact that I chose not to included the host name on each monitor thinking that it would be redundant to include it at this level as the device is named for the host ie:

Device1

ASP Monitor

HTTP Monitor

Device 2

ASP Monitor

....

My expectation was that I would be able to craft an alert something like %devicename%, %monitorname%, %monitorstatus%.

Unfortunately, this isn't possible in v9. We plan on adding the ability to leverage device attributes in alert tokens in the next version.

Is this now possible in v10? If so please point me in the right direction as I would like to setup ipMonitor correctly (yet I would like to keep things simple like the original poster). Thanks in advance, Steve

Hello stringy,

This is indeed possible. If you open an Alert Action and click the "Token List" button, you will see there is a new section called "Device Related". Within this section, the first token is "%parentdevice%", which will provide the name of the Device that contains the failing Monitor which triggered the Alert Action.

Using ipmonitor10: Is there a similar function to %parentdevice% that works in reporting? %parentdevice% does not work. %monitorname% does but that does me little good as upon discovery all monitors are given fairly generic names such as "CPU".

End result is I get a page of graphs titled CPU but cannot tell which is for which device. I just need a way to tie the monitor to the %parentdevice%. I have to think there is a way to present this data in the report as other aspects of the product (like alerting) allow this.

Appreciate any help with this.
