Globally change SNMP version

I just finished copying my Orion database over to our Cirrus database server and populated the it with over 2000 nodes. I have noticed however that when I select a device and view the credentials they all have SNMP v1 selected. We use SNMP v2, is there a way that I can globally change the SNMP version to 2.

Yes. You can use the following script, run against the Nodes table in the Orion database (NetPerfMon by default), to change all SNMPv1 to SNMP v2 devices. Before running queries against your database, ensure you first backup the database.

Stop the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor service using the Services Manager utility provided with Orion. By default, you can find this program at Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion >Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
Warning:
- Stopping the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor service also stops node polling. Consider doing any maintenance that requires the stopping of the service during a slow business cycle.
- Before Stopping the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor service, ensure you stop the SolarWinds Alerting Engine. Failure to stop the SolarWinds Alerting Engine will result in numerous alert notifications.
Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Database Utilities > Database Manager on your Orion server.
Locate and expand your Orion NPM database in the navigation pane.
Right click the Nodes table, and then select Query Table from the drop-down menu
Click Refresh to see the table contents.
Type the following in the Query window:
update nodes
set snmpversion = 2
where snmpversion = 1
Note: This SQL statement changes those nodes that are currently using SNMP version 1 to use SNMP version 2.
Click Refresh.
Exit the Database Manager.
Restart the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor service using the Orion Service Manager utility.

Thanks for your reply,

that worked like a charm. There was 1 slight difference though. I had to use the term snmplevel rather than snmpversion but it worked perfectly thanks for your help

Hi,

I have few nodes only in NCM and i used the SQL query to update all the NCM nodes community string and snmpversion to 2 and could see the same in the NCM manager

But i could still see that the nodes are showing as no snmp support

Is there a way that i could update the nodes that are only in NCM globally as i have a lots of nodes and then force to poll the information using SNMP

Any help would be appreciated
