Should I put NTM on my server or just install on one of our workstations?

So, We're finally planning on buying NTM and i'm a bit torn on how I should deploy it. I've looked around and saw a lot of people would install it on one of the servers and use it on that. Would it be better to just install it on the server and remote in and use it when we need to, or install it on a workstation and just use it there? and what would be the pros and cons of both?

It depends upon how often you will update it. It doesn't interact with other Solarwinds products (in general) so you wouldn't gain anything by sharing the server. At that same time you wouldn't really lose anything since you already have the server running. A server would be accessible to everyone that needs access to it and multiple people could be logged into the machine at one time.

If, however, this is one of those things you are going to build a map and put the tool away for weeks or months at a time, of if you have multiple sites that you want to map (and take your tool along with you) then just put it on your workstation or notebook.

In use you'll do a scan and then export that to some other tool, so NTM can be turned on as needed.
