Issue configuring an alert... need help.

Alerts
I have a group with nodes and app monitors in it. I'm trying to set up an alert for a user to get an email notification to his phone when things do down,( ex. ##########@txt.att.net)

When I create the alert I set Type of property to monitor to Group and added the condition. Then I would like to set it up that when any app in that group goes down it send the notification, but when you change the property type to monitor to App and add the condition: when you click Ok it comes up with a message about conditions changed, and changes the group name I had added to something like IOS family.

Is it possible to have an Alert that monitors Groups and Apps in the same alert?

You can't change the property type when creating an alert, it breaks the alert. The best way to approach this would be to create a Custom Property and mark the entities you want to include in the alert. Custom Properties are supported in all alert property types.

Thanks, Alerts are my weakest point since taking over Solarwinds. I have custom properties for types of devices, I will have to figure it out. Thanks again.

If you happen to know SQL or even have a SQL admin on your team they could create custom alerts by referencing other tables. The normal wizards are geared towards single table uses. I like to use the custom properties to fine tune what gets alerted on and when. If a field is blank I have it so the alert ignores that particular node.

Thanks, unfortunately though, I don't know SQL and the SQL person isn't up

to speed yet with recent changes in duties.
