Alert if two services on different nodes are up

Hi,

I have two servers that run a web application via a load ballancer.

They both have the same systems and services on them but 4 specific services should be running on one system only.

Is there a way to alert if the same service is running on both servers?

Also, can i alert if the service isn't running on either server?

Hi Ian,

The alert should look something like below. This will satisfy your second question, when it would alert if a service (in this case, example is sqlserver.exe) is not running on either server. For your second question, just switch the selected status and try to play around with it. You just have to make sure you correctly place your AND/OR blocks according to the scenario you are looking for.

Of course, the services should be already monitored in SAM for you to do this.

To get here: Settings > Manage Alerts > Add New Alert > Name the Alert > Choose Component on "I want to alert on", set your conditions and finish all the way.

sirpaw, I think the alert trigger criteria you posted will only alert when operating conditions are normal. I think imcguinness want to get alerts in two conditions: 1, when the Process is Not Running on both nodes; 2, when the Process is Running on both nodes.

There is an option to do complex alerts at the bottom of the trigger screen, select that. Here are my screen captures. Sorry, I don't know how to scroll-capture screens, so this is going to be in 2 screen captures, and small font. I hope it is readable. We have a custom property that divides devices by class and subclass. This alert is running against only devices that are marked as SQL servers. It has 2 comparisons, one for each of 2 servers. So, this alert will be triggered when SQL Server Process is running on both servers. Also note the 'And' field just above the 'Secondary Section' that is how to make the alert trigger if both sections are true. To alert when both are down, change the status, on both, but leave the 'And' in place. [Server names are fictitious in the below shots]
