UDT Watch List - Search for username

Using UDT 3.2.4

Trying to create a simple watch list item to look for a specific AD user when they login in. So far my test account never is showing logged in. I know it is case sensitive and I have tried all variations of the username with domain - never sees it,

Ideas? What am I missing?

I'll do some testing on my end, but I'm on v3.3 instead. What is your AD polling interval? I think the default is 30min, so it may take some time for UDT to scrape the logins from your logs.

This turns out to be a bug in the application.

The GUI to add a user to the watch list requires a domain account (DomainName\Account or account@DomainName) or it won't let you add it. However, when you check on accounts that were added by using the 'Search for Username in the Watch List page and it finds multiple accounts, it lets you add a selected account at that time and go back and edit them (to verify) you will see them in the format as LN, FN (or similar depending on your AD). And if you try to save after viewing it will tell you it needs to domain (all you can do at this point is to exit.

Another bug I found was that if I search for an account that only one account exists, it skips the listing of accounts altogether then jumps to the Account Details. Yet if there were multiple accounts found it then lets you select one to add to the watch list.

I have notified SolarWinds support of what I found - hopefully they can find a work around.

Thanks for discovering this! UDT v3.3 isn't the best platform to test on... it's not really functional They've got some major bugfixing to do before it hits GA

I just spent a couple of hours on the phone with SW UDT Support. Dave (from the Philippines) initially seemed very lightweight to me, but once we got into the meat of the matter, he definitely had the skills I needed to fix my misunderstandings about configuring UDT properly.

He immediately recognized my five pollers were missing the latest UDT hot fix, and he stepped me through applying it. And then rerunning the configuration wizard on all five pollers so they work properly. (I would LOVE for this to be a single-step-task, instead of ten steps!)

Next he showed me my misconception about what devices to include in UDT polling. I was under the mistaken idea that every device needed to be included, but it's only switches and their ports that should be included--not end devices and their ports. This goes for UPS's, F5's, servers, etc. Only switches and their ports get monitored.

I'm not clear if that includes Distribution switches that have no access ports on them, or if it excludes routers, which also have no access ports. I'll clarify that sometime.

Finally, he reminded me that UDT never worked natively with snmp-v3, and ALL my gear runs off v3. Luckily, he provided a link to a Cisco / Solarwinds page that shows several work-arounds for getting UDT info from snmp-v3-enabled switches. I'm testing it right now.
