We are currently on 5.7.3 of the Windows version of Storage Manager and are planning an upgrade. I'm confused on what the recommended upgrade path is. On this thwack post (Dreams Come True - Storage on Orion is now in Release Candidate!) it mentions both STM and SRM. Is it possible to keep STM as is and integrate STM with Orion or do you have to decom the STM server if you want Orion integration?
Hi B Harris,
Yes, you can keep your STM (SRM Profiler) server and use SRM Orion simultaneously. Upgrade your STM server to STM/SRM Profiler v6.0. Then install SRM Orion on your existing Orion server. Note that you may have to navigate other Orion module dependency upgrades, as we require the version of Orion Core that shipped with NPM 11.5/SAM 6.2 to operate. You can find that information here: SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Compatibility of SolarWinds Orion Products for Installation and Upgrade
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks dsbalcau. In the Admin Guide it mentioned having to deactivate a license before the upgrade. Is that step applicable to me since I will not be integrating it with NPM at this time?
I'm not sure why that would be necessary. Can you paste where you saw that instruction? If it is necessary for some reason, you should get an appropriate error message when the installer runs notifying you - it won't break anything. For SRM 6.0, you will need a 6.0 license key which should be available in your Customer Portal Login | SolarWinds.
