Switch Port Mapper freezes

I've tried mapping one of our lowest density switches just to make sure it wasn't the equipment (we're talking 4 users). I can see the program pull the MAC and match it with IP in the status box as it runs. It pauses for a second and displays "Retrieving interface descriptions" and there it will stay for hours and hours. I even removed this field on my report but it still runs every time. Anyone know of a glitch in version 8.0.19?

I'm having this same problem. I was pretty excited looking at the flash demo on this product but now I am really bummed out

Is the switch port mapper hanging on all devices or just one? Are there any VLANS on the switch that hangs?

Sometimes if a VLAN is hung on the device it will cause the switch port mapper to freeze without any kind of an error message.

It is hanging on all devices. Yes, there are VLANs on all the switches I have tested the application on. I am not sure what you mean when you say if a "vlan is hung". Is there a way around this?

This was a problem for me. If there is a vlan assigned to a switchport that does not have an entry in the cam table the port mapper will freeze. An example of this condition would be setting unused ports to a vlan that is not listed in the VTP domain the switch is a part of. This can happen if you have removed vlan1 or moved unused ports from the default vlan1 to vlans that do not exist in the vtp domain for security reasons.

I have the Ver. 9.1 (July 2007) and have the same issue. Tried map a Cisco 2960 with only a few active ports, and only Vlan1. Mapper tool just hangs, taking no CPU.

Has anyone had ANY luck with this?

I have been working with Collin Chan on and off since this issue has been discovered. He had me back version all the way to v8 and I still have the issue. I removed vlan's and etherchannel with no luck. I can map ports on a 3com switch just fine. Today I sent Collin my mib walk, browser and viewer all of which show the individual port descriptions. For some reason the port mapper still hangs, and we can see this in a sniffer log.

If you need any of this information please let me know. I really need to get this working and have a hard time explaining why we spent so much money for something that doesnt work

This seems to be a major issue with the software. It's hard to believe SolarWinds would release this software when it has major issues working with Cisco switches in an enterprise network. IMO you deserved to be reimbursed for your purchase. I was ready to make the purchase in the Engineer's Toolset but after running across this problem it's not worth our money.
