Query on number of Vcenters that can be monitored with VMAN

Hi All,

We are trying to evaluate VMAN plugin... i have few queries in terms on the number of V centers that we can monitor.

In the guide, its mentioned that "Only one VMAN installation can be integrated with one Orion Platform environment". In scenarios where Vcenters are located differently then what will be best approach?

also i have a query on the installation part:

--If i already have a Orion setup with SAM, NPM etc, then do i still need to deploy the VMAN instance? OR just the ORION install-VIM file which is present will suffice?

The appliance will get installed on vsphere but since you are running evaluations of NPM, SAM, & SRM you dont need to run the setup named VMAN-Orion-Install-2nd.

The installer named VMAN-Orion-Install-2nd is for customers who do not have existing Orion instances to integrate with or want to keep their VMAN instance separate from the rest of their Solarwinds monitoring.

There is not a limit to the number of vCenters that can be added. If the remote vCenters have high latency connections then you can implement a federated collector at each site which will poll the vCenter and send the data back to the master VMAN appliance.

For the installation, if you already have the most current version of SAM and NPM installed then you just need to integrate VMAN with that Orion instance. If you want to keep VMAN separate from your current SAM & NPM install then you would need to install the Orion VIM stand-alone and integrate that with the VMAN appliance.

Hi, when you have VMAN licensed, I would always go with the Appliance! The benefits outweigh the additional work with the appliance. As the previous poster already mentioned, you can add multiple vcenters to a VMAN appliance.

Yes i already have Orion evaluation instance NPM, SAM and SRM. So i would still have to install the setup file named VMAN-Orion-Install-2nd right?

And the appliance i will put it on the Vsphere client....
