Cisco router/switch GUI

Hello everyone.

For my final year dissertation on a networking degree I want to delevop a GUI that will issue Cisco IOS commands to a 2621 router or a 2950G switch. I found the Solarwinds Tools during my research and these are very similar to what I hope to achieve with my project.

Sorry that this isn't a specific query, but if anyone has any (or knows of any) infomation that would be useful in linking a front-end program to a router/switch via the COM port (necessary for console access on the Cisco devices) I would be extremely grateful if you could send it to me or provide a link. The upload/download function the Solarwinds Tools provide is a specific feature that I am interested in as it is the basis of my project.
