SFTP Questions

Hello - new to this site and to Solarwinds.

I have a requirement to stand up a SFTP server in our environment and management wants to use Solarwinds to do this. My thought is using Solarwinds SCP/SFTP, is this correct?

That is one question. Next I need to know How I set this up, do I stand up a FTP server first then load SCP/SFTP onto it?

I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That really depends on what OS is the outside user using. If they are on Windows, they'll have to use something like WinSCP (for SFTP protocol, SCP does not work with our server). SFTP/SCP server is often use to backup configs from switches and routers, and the operating systems running on them usually support SCP protocol.

The SFTP Server is a standalone tool, you do not need to install anything else. Just download it from our website, run the installer, and configure the settings.

Yes. You will need to configure the user account in settings though, there are no accounts created by default. Small tip: If you want to test the set up, you can use WinSCP client to connect via SFTP to the SFTP Server.
