IP SLA - ICMP reports on tunnels' availability

Hy everyone,

I'm using IP SLA Manager for monitoring some tunnels via ICMP from one site to another and I would like to create an availability report based on the statistics collected by the IP SLA ICMP operation. Does anyone have confrunted with this problem before? Is there a draft report I could customize for my purpose?Or, does anyone has an idea how can I create such a report? Any suggestions would be fantastic.

Hello,

There are come default UDP ECHO reports built in. Have you tried starting with these and customize from there?

Hi Jason,

I've looked over the built-in ICMP ECHO reports...and the only thing that could helped me was the table in which are collected the IP SLA operations data. The built-in report only shows the min, max and avg response time to an ICMP ECHO operation.

This is not currently a report we have out of the box. You can view this data for a short period through Operation Availability resource in the Web Console. You're not the first customer that has requested this report; I have logged it as a feature request.

Hi Craig,

I may have found a way to get the availability of the ICMP Operation...but I need to know exactly the behaviour of the IP SLA Manager. I've looked in the DB for the ICMP Echo operation and found the following data collected (for one ICMP operation during one month where MinRespTime = 0). From what I found in the DB initially I thought that when an ICMP Eco operation is UP, all of MinResp,MaxResp&AvgResp > 0 ms, and when the operation is DOWN, all of MinResp,MaxResp&AvgResp = 0. But as you can see below is that there are some cases when MinRespTime = 0 while MaxRespTime&AvgRespTime > 0 (which in my opinion is not possible in a real network...for the response time to an ICMP packet to be 0 ms).

Could you please explain what are the conditions for an ICMP Echo operation to be considered UP and when to consider it DOWN?I need to know the exact condition for me to use it in a query to get the availability of the ICMP Echo operations.
