Can APM do this with identical servers/processes?

We need to monitor two servers for same processes for failover. Can APM handle this???? I assume it can without me actually testing it out...

Such as,

VIPserver1

Process - ScheduleThis - RUNNING

Process - WatchThis - RUNNING

VIPserver2

Process - ScheduleThis IDLE

Process - WatchThis IDLE

So the VIP's are two different IP's and you want to monitor identical processes on both, is that accurate?

yes sir, that is accurate. this product is Numara Footprints by the way.

it was stated to us this is a requirement to have something inhouse to monitor this 'failover'...

and we need it in place real soon too and if Solarwinds can't do it, find the product that will.... (This is a first for me)

I understand one IP/SERVER will have the processes 'running' the IP/SERVER other will have them 'idle/waiting for failover'.

Sorry, my mind must be slow today but what's the difference between a running process and an idle process? I'm only confused because an idle process is technically running, isn't it? If so, do you mean that a process is RUNNING if it is active and consuming CPU cycles?

here's what it requires:

you must have a process monitor that can ensure that SCHEDULE and WATCH services are started on only one box at a time. Your process monitor must be able to account for failover.

I gotcha. This should be quite doable, I think. Just build your application template and apply it to both nodes. Keep in mind since the processes are not running on the failover node, it'll show as down.

If you want to take it further and receive alerts when the application is down on both, simply create a group based on the applications monitors and set the Status rollup mode to Show best status. This will ensure that the group status is only down when the applications on both nodes are down. Then simply create the corresponding group alert.
