Alerts on the amount of data in Bytes

Hi Solarwinds,

Is there a way I can setup an alert to notify me anytime via email when a router accumulates a certain amount of download threshold base on the NPM "Total Bytes Transferred" resource? See screen shot below

For example, router ABC is being monitor every 1st day on the month until last day of the month and at anytime in between, if the router hits the threshold of 100 Gigabytes of downloaded traffic, NPM will alert me.

At every 1st day of every month, the statistics will reset to 0 bytes downloaded. More like and ISP providing quota for ADSL users with auto alert when approaching the max quota.

The reason for this is we want to set a quota for a client behind the router of 100 Gigabytes only and total bytes downloaded goes over the set threshold we have to charge him/her $$ for every GB downloaded. Clients want us to control his download limit so he/she doesn't pay much on Internet bills.

I would like this feature too. Or even a way to alert when the average for a set period has increased by a set threshold

The only way I see an alert being created for this would be the following:

Assuming the router's MIB has an OID that reports on the total receive traffic, create a UnDP poller based on that stat.
Create a custom property and at the beginning of every month, update the custom property with the current total receive traffic + your defined threshold.
Then create an alert that triggers whenever the UnDP poller value exceeds the value of the custom property.

Obviously, there is some work involved with this and again, it assumes that you can poll for total receive traffic.

Another option involves reports but no alerts would be triggered. It would be to have a report about total received traffic this month on your specified interface. You can use or base it off of the Total Bytes Transferred by Interface - This Month canned report. Schedule it to be generated and e-mailed to your client everyday. The report may be the closest thing you have to an alert if the router doesn't report on total received traffic via SNMP.

I would prefer to take on the 2nd option using the "Total Bytes Transferred by Cisco Devices - Last Month" report.

How do I schedule this to generate every month and email?
