I have currently installed NCM 6.1 RC, however now that GA is available should I reinstall or am I not gaining anything by doing so?
Hi burnsnet,
There is a difference between the RC and the GA of NCM 6.1.
The difference is in this DLL: "Solarwinds.Net.SNMP.dll".
The GA version fixes an issue preventing SNMP V3 cummunity strings greater than 16 characters.
Even if you don't encounter this issue, we recommend that you move to the GA.
For this, simply installing the GA is not sufficient. The recommended procedures are as follow:
- Either you delete the DLL and install the GA
- Or you Install the GA, delete the DLL and run the repair.
If you run other Orion products, you may notice that they may use a DLLs with the same name. In this case, this procedure is recommended only in the NCM environment, not in other product's.

So we ran the RC and tried to move to the GA - we got the GA with SQL express -.
We eventually upgraded to the GA, but now you are saying the GA install didn't update that dll? Is that correct?
Can I be a bit of an *** and ask why?
Hello,
It's because the difference between the 2 versions of the DLL is not picked-up by our installer logic, hence not updated. This is something we are working on, in terms of installer improvement.
So basically, we recommend deleting the current DLL and running the repair
fcaron - If you are working on it, that's good enough for me. Thx!
