Hello

I have problem with my Orion Network Performance Monitor version 9.1 SP3.

I can't start my System Manager, after upgrade from 9.0 version and some nodes are in unknown state.

I already tried with restarting on all services and with configuration fizard but the problem still exist.

The polling engine stops on 6% and go back and is in loop all time.

 

Do you have any solutions for my problem?

Hi,

There are problably some corrupted/duplicates nodes' entries in the database.

To check this, Open Database Manager to run some SQL Queries described below.

(Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager)

SQL Find Duplicate Node or IP

Find Duplicate Entries of the same Node

For example, Nodes that had been discovered under different IP addresses at different times.

1. Find out if there are any duplicate nodes with different IP Address/Caption.

SELECT Sysname, count(*)
FROM Nodes 
GROUP BY Sysname 
HAVING count(*) > 1

2. If there are duplicates showing up, this will display all details about those entries - the original and duplicate entries included. You can right-click and "Delete Selected Rows" on the entries that are deemed as the duplicates. Sysname is the 12th column in.

SELECT * 
FROM nodes 
WHERE ObjectSubType != 'ICMP' AND Sysname IN (SELECT Sysname
  FROM Nodes 
  GROUP BY Sysname 
  HAVING count(*) > 1)
  ORDER BY sysname

Find Duplicate IP Addresses in the Nodes Table

SELECT IP_Address, COUNT(*)
FROM Nodes 
GROUP BY  IP_Address 
HAVING COUNT(*) > 1

Check for more details about the entries that are using that IP Address (e.g 10.10.10.10)

SELECT *
FROM Nodes
WHERE IP_Address = '10.10.10.10'

If you are seeing this issue with a lot of Nodes, it might be useful to pick out just the entries that are seeing this issue.

SELECT * 
FROM Nodes 
WHERE IP_Address IN (SELECT IP_Address
  FROM Nodes 
  GROUP BY  IP_Address 
  HAVING COUNT(*) > 1)

 

Find Mangled IP Addresses in the Nodes Table

This will locate any IP addresses that do not have the correct number of octets, or are showing up as Blank or Unknown.

SELECT NodeID, IP_Address, Caption
FROM Nodes
WHERE IP_Address NOT LIKE '%.%.%.%' OR IP_Address LIKE '%.%.%.%.%'

For IP Addresses that are NULL (this is different to blank), you may need to use a separate query. I haven't found any customer databases that have this issue yet.

SELECT NodeID, IP_Address, Caption
FROM Nodes
WHERE IP_Address IS NULL
