Can I use NPM in the Engineers Toolset to monitor vSwitches on my ESXi hosts? If so, what is the procedure for doing so? I'm upgrading some virtual hardware and would like to be able to see what difference (if any) it makes.
It really depends on the version of ESXi. If SNMP is not enabled, then no. Unfortunately the Toolset NPM only uses SNMP and VMWare has been moving away from SNMP data gathering for some time now.

This would be ESXi 5. I do not believe SNMP is currently enabled, but i could enable it, if need be.
You would need to, but depending on what VMWare has setup, you may only get the standards like ports and CPU on the actual server. The actual pertinent information would need to be gathered by something like Orion NPM or Virtualization Manager. You could try the ESX free tool.
