Advanced alerts alerting on all sites as being up after modifying Alerts configuration

I was looking at eth configuration of my advanced alerts for my WAN devices and added another group to the devices to alert on and then applied it. After saving Orion started alerting that all my sites were back up and I got over 300 alerts. Has anyone had this problem? I am running 8.1.

This does not sound normal.

If you would have said you got emails stating that nodes were "down" then I would suggest looking at your trigger but that is not what happened. Did you make any changes to your "reset"?

One thought would be to grab the sql statement from your resetquery and see if the change you made messed up the reset. This has never happened to me. Here is a typical reset from one of my alerts.... in this case when a node beginning with "corp" is up, I get the reset notification.

SELECT Nodes.NodeID AS NetObjectID

FROM Nodes

WHERE

(

(Nodes.Status = '1') AND

(Nodes.Caption LIKE 'corp%')

)

When I added the additional devices to alert on , i did change the query on the trigger from all to any on the Trigger condition not the reset action, would that change cause the alerting to change?

The resetquery is defined by the trigger. So when you changed the trigger It would imply that the reset was changed. What I'm not sure of is how Orion internally determines that we have a reset. I would have assumed that a node would first need to have been triggered... but in your case this did not seem to be true.

WHen I am trying to understand whay alerts do what they do... s I cut and paste the SQL from Orion and see what I get in a SQL Studio manager. Its not perfect but sometimes it helps me understand.

Hopefully someone in the alert-guru category will pipe in and explain. You might want to include your alert definitions for others to see.
