SNMP test fails when adding node and not pulling firmware information

Hello,

I am trying to add a Moxa switch (Model EDS-G512E-T) to NPM, but I am having issues verifying the SNMP read/write string.

1. No connection errors

2. community strings (ro and rw) are both correct

3. I've done a packet trace and it appears that everything is working fine until the last exchange (set-request)

During the last exchange, I'm getting the error "error-status: badvalue (3)" and "error-index: 1" in the get-response.

I'm not sure what is causing this error and when checking the hex values, they appear to match. I can post the packet capture if needed.

Also, one thing we need is for solarwinds to pull the installed firmware information. I am able to pull this information manually with snmpwalk and with snmptest, but solarwinds cannot pull and display this information. The OID is not in the MIB tree, but I have added a universal device poller, but it will still not display the information (at least not anywhere that I can see). Is this just an issue of the the MIB needing the be added to the Orion MIB DB?

In order to add the device try doing so with the RW string blank.

If the firmware info isn't being pulled by default then your options are to create a UnDP, or to use Device Studio to specify which OIDs to poll for the Node Details data. If you want an example of a Device Studio poller for this info I've got a couple Cisco Nexus pollers you can refer to. These are in the Community Pollers (from Orion go to Settings > Manage Pollers > thwack Community Pollers). There's a few other Node Details pollers (Aerohive, BOSCH, etc) out there as well. Hopefully between all these you should be able to find enough to build your own.

I have added the node without the RW string, but would still like to have that part working, or at least know why it is not.

But as far as reading the software version in SW, I was able to re-create a poller in Device Studio that pulls the right OID for software version for this device.

Regarding the RW string: it sounds like Orion is trying to write to an OID that your device either doesn't support at all, or only supports get operations. Some devices, such as a Cisco ASA firewall, do not support any SNMP set operations.

Device Studio poller: Good to hear. Feel free to submit it back to the community so others can benefit.
