How to Send an Interface Description Along with a Trap Email?

I cant be the first to ask this question but Ive had no luck asking support or searching the Internet. All I would like to do it that after Solar gets a LinkDown trap, I want an email triggered that also includes the interface description and a link to the Node. Is there a way to do this with Variables, or does it take a VB script? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Yo,

You will have to set your device to send traps to your application server from here you can create an alert on the trap condition this can be done in the Trap Viewer you can add Alert Actions choose 'send Email' and add the veriables you want to see you can find a list of the variables here

But as Steven mention above NPM already monitors what you might need all you need to do is enable the monitoring through list resources.

You can indeed create an alert when an interface goes down and same as the trap you can set up a Trap.

I'd prefer to get the alert the second the trap goes out and not wait for Solar to find it. Plus, if the interface just bounced and solarwinds polled it and saw it up, the alarm wouldn't trigger correct?

I'm really tryign to figure out a template to use for all alarms (ospf, bgp, etc) but the Interface alarm seemed like the best place to start. In my last work environment the solution we used for alarming could parse through the trap and only display certain things and included the Interface name and link.

NPM can monitor the up/down status of interfaces. Is there any reason you're not monitoring them there?
