Orion IP SLA Manager 3.1 GA'd last week, and is waiting for you in your SolarWinds Customer Portal if your maintenance is current. Check it out and let us know what you think! Here is what's included in 3.1:
- IP SLA node discovery – You can now kick off an intelligent discovery of IP SLA nodes from the IP SLA node management page. IP SLA Manager will scan your Cisco devices, detect which ones are IP SLA capable, and automatically add them to IP SLA Manager.
- Editing SNMP credentials – We wanted to make it easier for you to edit SNMP credentials from within the IP SLA Manager module. Now, when manually adding nodes, we’ve made it simpler to edit SNMP credentials when they need to be changed. IP SLA manager requires valid SNMP read strings to determine if a device is IP SLA capable, and valid read/write strings are required to create operations on the device.
- Ability to target external devices or websites – We’ve added the ability to target a website, or an another external device not being managed by Orion. You can now specify an external target for the TCP Connect, ICMP Echo and UDP Echo operations. Hint: you have to select the ‘Custom’ path type when creating the operation.
- Ability to specify the interface for an operation – Several of you told us you needed to be able to choose a specific interface on the source device from which you’re creating an IP SLA operation; now you can. Actually, you could do it in 3.0, but it was done through a global setting on the node, and it would apply to all operations created on that node. Now, you can do this on a per operation basis. Hint: it’s a little hard to find, but you can specify the interface’s IP by editing the operation on the ‘Review’ step of the Operations wizard, then expand the ‘Advanced’ options.
