Network Performance Monitor problem

I am trying to monitor an Extreme switch, but the program hangs during the resources discovery of the device with the message " Please Wait..Discovering Interfaces and Determining supported MIBS. 36 interfaces..."

Any ideas ?

Hi,

I am not sure why it hangs.

You should have further information in the \Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\NPM.BusinessLayer.log

and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\OrionWeb.log files.

How many interfaces should be discovered on the device?

If you run a network trace using Wireshark it might give you some information as well such as which side stops sending information first.

pastorm - Couple of things can cause this:

The device is reporting more interfaces in the ifCount MIB versus what it reports in the ifTable.
Some older devices will drop the discovery packets because they are coming out so fast.

You can see both of these in an SNMP packet capture of the discvovery. Make sure you are using the latest version of the Toolset, as we are always trying to improve the discovery process.
