Optical monitoring for Ciena OME6500 (Nortel)

Hi All,

Is there anyone successfull to grab Nortel Optical PM with solarwinds? Because, I've tried that for OSC and ORL parameter didn't success. There are no percentation and graphic for tx/rx. Look the capture below.

But for ETH10G parameter successfully show the percentation and graphic for tx/rx. Look the capture below.

Is there anyone help for this issue? Is there any setting that I missed? I use Solarwinds Orion Platform 2017 and Ciena OME6500. Please share your experience. Thank you.

WDM optics vendors don't use "standart counters"

Solarwinds use only RFC1213

You probebly can get some counters with UNDP but its no the same...

The node details like below. So OID value 1.3.6.1.4.1.562.68.11 not suppported Orion NPM?

Below is example interface type Other didn't success show utilization. I need this (like ORL,OSC, AMP) to show utilization.

That OID is just the SysObjectID, it helps to identify the vendor of the device.

You need to go into List Resources to see if the Interfaces are listed. Make sure that the Interface Traffic is selected.

The OIDs posted above are what is checked for All Vendor devices. Ciena does not use the Interface OIDs, Custom Pollers will have to be created.

The Universal Device Poller is the application that will allow you to poll non-standard and not out of the box information from any SNMP enabled device. If you already know the MIB and/or OID for the data you want to pol.

How to Setup Custom Pollers

To access the Application on the Solarwinds Server, please go into Start and search for Universal Device Poller, or under Programs> Solarwinds Orion> Network Performance Monitor> Universal Device Poller.
Click on New Universal Device Poller
1. In OID, enter in the OID Above
2. Under Name, you can enter in the MIB Name
3. Expand Out Advanced
4. MIB Value Type: Raw Value
5. Format: None
6. SNMP Get Type: Get Next
7. Polling Type: Node
8. Polling Interval (Leave blank)
9. Keep Historical Data: Yes
10. Status Enabled
11. Select Next
In the Assign (Poller Name) to Nodes, select the Devices, then select Test.
1. If it comes back as a green checkbox, then it is returning information
2. If you see OID not Supported, then the device does not support this custom poller
3. Select Next
Display (poller Name) Results on Orion Website
1. Select Chart Next to Node Details - Summary
2. Select Finish

Can't just compare between WDM element and Ethernet element...

When I need to monitor something like WDM or RF amplifier

I poll someting like power in/out with Custom Poller.

I will also view SNMP trap in the node view as extra source data.

That is about what "I" need from that type og element...

We use WDM as very big "SFP" :-) I don't sale that capacity to 3 party
