Has anyone set up the Dameware Centralized Server on a Virtual Machine?
Hi,
We have installed this on to a Windows 2012 R2 virtual server and it works just fine.
Thanks - I will let my team know...
I have both production and test on Windows Server 2008 R2 vm servers
What is this centralized server do ?
how does it compare with the Stand alone version ?
There are two ways to manage Dameware.
1. Standalone mode - this means that you install the Dameware software onto each pc, and with it, you input a license key.
2. Centralized Server - with this you set up a central server that you load a single license key. Each user you set up then logs into that server to use Dameware.
With the new features of Central server starting w/ ver. 11, you not only have access to Dameware Remote Services, but you also have Mini-Remote Control, allowing you the full set of tools if you need them, or just the quick easy way to access a remote machine. Another feature they have is to use the Mobile Gateway, which allows you to download the app for your mobile device. This gives you the ability to access machines while away from your desk.
The Third main feature is the ability to set up a web server that allows quick easy access to a user who is not in the office, having trouble and they call in for support. You can have them access this server and then remote to their desktop.
Another nice feature with the latest update to version 11 is that you can setup your user accounts by importing them from active directory.
This is a brief overview... I would recommend getting onto Solarwinds' website and checking it out.
Thanks gneal1 so for my 8 users in a team of 12 I should be deploying the Centralized server to better manage the concurrent license.
Actually if you have 12 users, you need 12 licenses. You can check with your SolarWinds rep but I don't believe they run shared licensing like that.
Basically the advantages you have with using Centralized Server as opposed to the stand alone is that 1. You can manage your licensing from one place and not have to manage it on everyone's pc individually. This also gives you access from more systems. 2. you have the ability to add the Mobile Gateway and Internet Proxy features.
The nice thing is you can download and run the Central Server install without having to buy the licensing. You have 2 weeks to try it out and see if it's what you're looking for. The install of all 3 modules are pretty simple. Setup of users has become even easier because you can import them from AD and the client that each person needs is small and installs in just a couple minutes.
