Network Configuration Manager (NCM)
problems with enable and download tool
FormerMember
Hello,
I currently have a scheduled task to download all of our configurations at a certain time.
As of late the report has come back with quite a few devices giving me the following error:
"ERROR: Cannot download Running config : Enable not supported or enable command invalid"
I can login just fine with the same credentials when going directly.
After some investigation with the session trace tool, it appears that the server is sending the enable command right after the username and before the password:
--> Username:
ProcessLogin State: 5
<-- monitoring@xxxxxx.com
-->enab
ProcessLogin State: 5
-->le
ProcessLogin State: 5
-->
--> Password:
ProcessLogin State: 5
<-- xxxxx << enable password
-->
-->
--> % Authentication failed.
-->
It appears that it sends enable and then enabled password but never the username's password.
here is trace for one that actual works.
-->monitoring@xxxxxx.com
ProcessLogin State: 2
-->
--> Password:
ProcessLogin State: 2
<-- xxxxxxxx << username password
-->
-->
--> 2621-LAB>
ProcessLogin State: 3
Prompt is being set to : 2621-LAB>
Logging into Enable Mode
<-- enable
-->e
ProcessLogin State: 5
-->nab
ProcessLogin State: 5
-->le
ProcessLogin State: 5
-->
-->
ProcessLogin State: 5
-->Password:
ProcessLogin State: 5
<-- xxxxx << enable password
-> 2621-LAB#
both routers are using the same auth. method and tacacs.
Anyone ran into this, or did I miss something?

I am seeing the same thing with a few of my devices. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Robertp,
I actually found the problem. Our banner was causing the issue, it appears that it needs a space before the motd banner and after it. So I used rancid which doesn't seem to care to update all the nodes that weren't working
. and it worked after that.

Perfect, that worked for me too.
Thanks for your help!
