Hi,
I would like to alert on "packet loss" by interface.
Like how many percent of the packets either have an error or are discarded (or somehow did not get through).
Is this possible? If so, how?
There is a High Packet Loss Monitoring alert already included. if you go to Manage Alerts that is where it is....from there you can add whichever nodes/interfaces you need to monitor. i am running NPM9.5.1
yes stevel is right is there is a report option to see the report on packet lossses
well, the existing alert is for nodes only, not for interfaces as i tried to explain.
And I dont want/need it as a report but as an alarm.
This is great....Couple of questions....
1. Is the packet loss percentage based on the device level or interface level ?
2. Is it pack loss percentage based on a period of time? IE: last hour, last poll etc.
3. Is packet loss, Discards and errors or just dropped packets ?
Good stuff, Thanks
Bob
when you go to the alert under trigger condition you can change the Type of Proterty to Monitor to interface instead of node....
Yes...I know how to do that...However, correct me if i'm wrong. Doesn't that work this way?
The existing "Percent loss" trigger is found under the "Node > Current Response Time properties fields". Which says to me it's a node Packet loss (Based on polls). If you select Property to monitor and select interface, you do indeed see a new list of options under the "Interface Hierarchy, however, no "Percent Loss" anywhere that I can see.
So, are you saying just because I made "Property to Monitor" Interface it will calculate based on ALL the interfaces on that device?
PS. I don't want to filter on a specific interface and leave out others on the same router. But, in the same hand I do not want a device total either. I just want an alert sent to me when any Cisco router interface exceeds packet loss of 5%.
Sounds simple....I am just not getting it.
Thanks,
Questionario Did you get any solution for this yet?
I am looking for the same thing: Set Up an alerts on packet loss on interface
Packet loss is only measured at a node level.
well, almost 5years later I dont remember much of it ;-)
but you can set up alerts for errors and discards of the interface, not actual packet loss as this would be an end to end thing.
