HowTo: Rename Multiple Devices

Hi,  I need to rename a number of devices so that a fixed portion of their name is changed to a new value.  I thought there was a way to do this by exporting the data, usign a text editor and re-importing. 

I exported the devices but just wanted to check whether CatTools will know which device is which and update them, or whether it will just create a duplicate set of devices?  It depends whether it does a replace and if so, what it uses to match the devices.

Or is there another way?

Hi David,

The Device Name is used as the key when importing devices.  Therefore if you export your devices, change the device names and reimport, you will end up with a duplicated set of devices but with new names.

You probably want to try using the CatTools API instead.  With this you can iterate the devices and update each one (so say you can do a replace string with new string, type of thing or append /prefix each existing name, etc.)
