IP Monitor 10 - need to monitor internet explorer process (iEXPLORER.exe)

Hi,

I'm currently using IP monitor vers 10. I have a windows 2000 server that is being monitored. All is fine i.e. cpu-proccessor, drive space, ping and physical memory.

However we use internet explorer browser vers 5.5 on the server as a polling station to a custom application sending messages! Sometimes the browser will crash and I need to set-up a monitor to tell me when the crash has happened. i.e. explorer (Iexplorer.exe) is no longer running.

I cannot seem to get this to work, even with external process. Any help would be great. I have tried some of the scripts but with no joy.

Hi sspca,

Try opening a CMD window on the ipMonitor system and running the following command:

c:\winnt\system32\cscript.exe c:\[path]\perfmon_process.vbs [system] iexplore.exe

[path] being the full path to to the perfmon_process.vbs script
[system] being the IP or host name of hte Windows 2000 system

Do keep in mind that this script uses a WMI query to get the process list on the remote system and Windows 2000 can be a little finicky when it comes to WMI. To test WMI connectivity, you could try the steps in the following article:

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the reply. Yes that is the file but I cannot get it to work or run. I get a permission or access denied error message but I'm using an account with admin access on the server.

I tried the script running from my XP desktop and openned and closed ie but nothing. Hope you can help.

Currently unable to use this functionality

The cscript returns the correct Error code of 0 and echos

"PROCESS_FOUND:: processname.exe" to the screen when run under a command prompt.

When run from IPMonitor the Monitor returns error

"The return value does not match the expected value"

Expected Return Value is set to 0 as recommended to check if process is running

Any ideas as to why this works from a command prompt and not from IPM??

If the scripts fails to complete, it will error out and return and error level other than 0. My guess is that the Credential you are using is not able to run the WMI query within the script. Try this:

1. On the ipMonitor host, open a CMD Window.

2. Type "Runas /user:[Account] cmd.exe" ***where [Account] is the account name entered within the Credential.

3. Enter the password when prompted.

4. Within the new CMD window running as the account assigned to the Credential, try running the script.
