Alert suppression
jmdi
Hi,
I'm montoring more than 500 cisco nodes,I've define one alert if node goes down but also an alert for each interface on node.
How do I suppress alert on interfaces when a node goes down ?
I don't want to configure 500 dedicated alerts ?
Thanks for you help

Hi Dierick,
I'm not sure I understand your question, but here goes.
Basically you have created an Alert for any of the 500 Nodes go down, and another alert for any of the interfaces on those nodes being down?
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if a node goes down, you do not receive interface down alerts for that node as well?
In this case you do not need to configure alert suppression, unless there are other nodes which you are monitoring, behind the node which just went down. Also have a look at this post on setting up alert suppression correctly:

Dierick,
You can setup your alerts to do what you describe without configuring alert suppression. Just be sure that when you build the alert for the interfaces that you alert only when they are in a "down" state. If the node is down the interfaces will enter an "unknown" state and should not trigger your alert.
HTH,
Josh
