IP SLA Mgr 3.0 - No graphs being displayed

I just opened a support ticket on this one. I'm not getting any graphs when I drill down to certain operations. On one or two it works fine but on others I get "No Data for Selected Time Period" or just the image not found icon (black box with red X in center).

Anyone else having this issue?

Well I just got off the phone with Rick, the Manager of the TAC group that deals with such things. He was very apologetic and finally was able to tell me what I already knew: The fix for this bug has not yet been ported to the 12.2SX train yet which is what 6500's use. He is going to get that moving ASAP.

I asked him if others should also open TAC cases and he said it cannot hurt. So if your hardware does not support either of the two trains where this bug is already fixed then I encourage you to also open a case.

Worth noting is that the fix will almost certainly appear in 12.2SXJ which will be the first 6500 IOS to support EnergyWise. If you're like me and have been waiting for this so you can use the capabilities that Orion already offers, you can kill two birds with one stone by going to SXJ. No word when that will come out. :-)

Screenshots on the way. The graphs that don't appear are on any "Operation Details" page. For instance, for a DNS operation you would normally see two graphs: (1) Min/Max/Avg Graph of Round Trip Time and (2) Operation Availability. I have had these operations running for a couple of hours now and I still get "No Data to Display for Selected Time Period". I have tried to change the time period as well as the sample period and I still get nothing.

After working with the very capable Solarwinds tech support and development staff we have determined that there is a Cisco bug which will cause graphs to break in IP SLA Manager after 49 days of uptime:

CSCin66315 - Inconsistency with sysuptime and rttMonLatestRttOperTime

It is resolved in 12.2(46)SG and 12.3(7)T.

I did a little math and I think I know what the bug is. The number of "ticks" in 49 days is 423,360,000 which is pretty close visually to the maximum 32 bit integer which is 4,294,967,296. My guess is that the programmer left out a digit when trying to detect a wrap condition.

I have a TAC case open still because the suggested IOS is not compatible with my hardware. Hope this does not affect you!

Right now I've no historical data for my SLA operations, and for me that is very unsatisfying.

I configured the operations on my core switch and seems that no new IOS is available.

Andre, I have had a TAC case open for over a week. They tried to close the case but I have not let them because they have yet to acknowledge that there's no fix or workaround for my hardware (mainly 6500). By happy coincidence we're having a utility maintenance in the building this weekend which will cause most of my devices to power cycle. I guess I've just bought myself 49 more days! :-)

I get no graphs no matter what combination I try to monitor via IP SLA in my company net. Not with my core switch neither on my edge routers. I would love to get some historical data ;-(

A couple of responses to you:

1. I'm surprised that this has not come up unil now. VoIP Manager has been around for a while and I don't see why this bug didn't surface when the product was called that.

2. In fairness to Solarwinds they can't really be expected to fix Cisco bugs. What we might expect in the future is a more rigorous testing cycle. I know that this particular team did not have any 6500s to test on and seemed to test only on low end Cisco gear. Apart from that, this is a Cisco bug pure and simple and I don't see any easy way to code around it without creating other possible issues.

I'm on with the TAC right now. I have been ignored by the TAC engineer for over a week so now it's time to knock some heads. I'll let you know how it goes.

There's no workaround in the current version of IPSLA Manager to the IOS bug being discussed here. In this case, IP SLA Manager is reporting based on what the router tells it to report.

Hi, im currently testing the IP SLA manager demo..there are no graphs displayed as well..is this normal to the demo version?im getting no data for udp jitter operations, the icmp echo worked..we are using 12.2 (33) SRB2 IOS..cisco 7609..is this within the range of IOSs not protected from the bug?

At this time, it looks like the bug affects all 12.2SX IOS flavors, as Kahmeelyon mentioned.

Would you please also check your MS IIS settings where you installed the Web Console? If you've enabled the URLScan tool to check for greater than or less than signs, this tool may be blocking your graphs.
