Secundary SMPT Server

Hi all,

Is it possible to configure a second SMTP server inside an alert definition so that if the primary SMTP Server goes down, the alerts search the sencond Server and continue sending alert.

This is when we configure the an alert action we have to enter the SMTP server and port but if for any reason this particullar server goes down, then the alerts would stop.

that functionality would be nice but you cannot...

however you could monitor that smtp server for either mailflow, open ports, up/down, etc. and create an alert which will use a different smtp server, that way you will at least know that orion can currently not send any alerts through that smtp server

As an added suggestion to that:

On our Orion server I have the mail server in all alerts set to "mail.server.set.by.local.hosts.file", with (obviously) a corresponding entry for "mail.server.set.by.local.hosts.file" in the hosts file. This is to make it easier to change the SMTP server if circumstances require it later.

You could have two hosts files: hosts.primary and hosts.backup. The alert action for the primary smtp server going down would be a batch file which copies hosts.backup to "hosts", with the reset action doing the same for the other file.
