Hi All,
Could someone Please explain Difference Between VIM ,VMAN and IVIM.
VMAN was a completely standalone virtual appliance that gathered virtualization metrics.
VIM is the virtualization polling component that Solarwinds developed do virtualization polling from within the core Orion NPM/SAM software, historically this was just a subset of what VMAN could do.
IVIM was the name for the integration module that Solarwinds used to import data from the VMAN appliance to the VIM module so it would show up on the normal Orion web console without having to log into the appliance.
As of a few months ago Solarwinds had decided VIM had been built up enough that they no longer needed the separate appliance, but you don't get the expanded VIM feature set unless you apply a VMAN license to your Orion instance. At this point you CAN still download and run the appliance but I would not be surprised if it stops getting developed in the future and they "encourage" anyone still using the appliance to migrate to Orion based VIM/VMAN. This would be similar to the STM/SRM progression where STM was once a standalone tool, you can still download and install it, but it no longer gets new features as the dev efforts have moved on to SRM.
